Description

The Rhopoint IQ quantifies surface quality problems that cannot be identified by a standard glossmeter and profiles how light is reflected from a surface. This extremely advanced instrument measures: 20/60° GLOSS • HAZE• REFLECTED IMAGE QUALITY (RIQ) • DISTINCTNESS OF IMAGE (DOI) • RSPEC In operation, these terms are defined as Gloss: A measurement equivalent to the amount of light reflected from a surface measured at 20° which is high gloss and 60° which is mid gloss. Haze: Haze is an optical effect that is caused by residue on a surface or microscopic textures. RIQ : Used to quantify effects such as surface waviness and orange peel. This newer parameter gives higher resolution results in comparison to the Distinctness of Image (DOI) measurement and better mirrors the human perception of surface textures, particularly on high-quality finishes such as paint finishes on an automotive. DOI: A measure of how patently a reflected image will appear on a reflective surface. RSPEC: The peak gloss value over a very narrow-angle.

The Ultimate Glossmeter Upgrade

THE RHOPOINT IQ QUANTIFIES SURFACE QUALITY PROBLEMS THAT ARE INVISIBLE TO A STANDARD GLOSSMETER The Rhopoint IQ measures reflected image quality; it is the only hand held instrument that profiles how light is reflected from a surface. Glossmeters are usually used to measure the “shininess” of a surface but are not sensitive to common effects which reduce appearance quality.

Rhoopoint Iq No Orange Peel

Orange peel substantially reduces appearance quality without influencing gloss readings. These two test panels measure identically with a standard glossmeter. The Rhopoint IQ with RIQ/DOI measurement can compute the differences.

Rhopoint Iq No HazeRhopoint Iq Haze

Haze is a common issue associated with polished and coated materials. Surfaces with haze will have a “milky” finish and a “shallow” reflected image. This important characteristic is specifically measured with Rhopoint IQ.

Gloss

A measurement proportionate to the amount of light reflected from a surface. Geometry: The correct measurement geometry should be determined by the sample finish – matt= 85°, mid gloss= 60° and high gloss= 20°.

RSPEC

The peak gloss that is measured over an exceptionally narrow-angle. Usage: This is very sensitive to a surfaces texture and can be used to identify subtle differences on smooth surfaces.

Reflective Haze

An optical effect due to a residue or microscopic texture on a surface. Visible Symptoms: A milky finish is evident on the surface with a loss of reflected contrast. Patterns and halos can be seen around reflections of high-intensity light sources. Causes: Additive migrations, Ageing, Fine scratches, Oxidisation, Poor cleanliness/surface, Polishing marks, Poor dispersion, Raw material incompatibility, Residue, Stoving/drying/curing conditions and Vehicle quality.

Reflective Haze Compensation

The instrument compensates for reflection from within the coating for metallic coatings, highly reflective pigments and speciality pigments. This allows the haze of any painted surface to be measured.

Reflected Image Quality (RIQ)

Reflected imagine quality is used to quantify effects like surface waviness and orange peel. This new parameter achieves higher resolutions results compared to Distinctness of Image (DOI) measurement and improved mimics of human perception of surface texture, specifically on high-quality finishes such as automotive. Symptoms of Poor RIQ: Orange peel, waviness, brush marks or other structures visible on the surface. Reflected images are distorted. Causes: Some causes can be application problems, coating viscosity too high/low, cure temperature, incorrect coating flow, incorrect cure times, incorrect particle size/distribution, inter coat compatibility, improper flash/recoat time, sag or flow of coating before curing and overspray.

Distinctness Of Image (DOI)

A measure of how clearly a reflected image appears on a reflective surface.
